On-site Crating and Factory Relocations

We do the crating in your facility.

Reid Packaging offers custom on-site crating services to industrial manufacturers, rigging companies, freight forwarders, relocation companies and their shippers. On-site crating services are for items that are too large, too heavy, too fragile, too valuable, too uniquely shaped or too confidential to be moved before crating.

Here at Reid Packaging, we have teams of experienced crate-builders who routinely go to our clients’ facilities to package and crate items on site. Working at YOUR facility means that you don’t need to transport the items before they are crated for shipping. Many items simply can’t be moved until they are in a secure shipping crate. That’s why building shipping crates on-site is so important.

Our teams travel with all the tools and supplies that they will need. We design the crates and prepare the wood and other materials (barrier bags, corrugated, hardware) before arriving, so we can be as efficient as possible at your facility. If the crate is headed overseas, then we bring ISPM-15 certified dimensional lumber suitable for export. Learn more about export crating and international shipping requirements.

Making custom crates for shipping your items represents a significant part of any production line. We work closely with companies in ongoing capacities, sometimes setting up a full-time crating operation for their products. Let Reid Packaging handle your custom on-site packaging needs so you can get back to your core business.

Whether it’s one item or a thousand items, our on-site crating teams are ready to come to you.

Factory Relocations

When factories are relocating, retooling, or closing, it’s crucial to work with riggers and craters that understand the details involved in safely and effectively moving and storing machinery.

In 2012, we had the honor of crating Lockheed Martin’s entire F-22 RAPTOR assembly line, located in two plants – one in Marietta, GA and the other in Meridien, MS. That job was a big challenge in terms of scale. We had a dedicated production team, under the direct supervision of an owner, working around the clock to produce hundreds of crates over the months that it took to safely package this project.

Experience with Large, Complex Relocation Jobs

With that experience and many others since, we’ve come to understand how to effectively and accurately quote a factory relocation job. Many companies may claim to do the work quicker or more cheaply. We will do it accurately, safely, and efficiently. When it comes to machinery worth millions of dollars, we think that’s a better approach.

Factory relocations also require a lot of collaboration—with riggers and millwrights on-site, with the freight company responsible for moving the items and with the facility that is receiving or storing the items. We understand what questions need to be asked in order for everyone to efficiently do their job, making sure that the valuable machinery is safely packaged, transported and received.

I have used Reid Packaging for nearly 10 years to crate large, very heavy mining equipment. They are always professional, prepared and knowledgeable. When circumstances change, and they are asked to jump, the response is always, yes! I call my Reid crew The A Team. Because they get it done. It’s one less thing I have to worry about.
